It has been so nice over the last few weeks to be able to listen to the realizations of those early disciples of Srila Prabhupada and the early days of ISKCON here in the United Kingdom. There love and devotion cannot be underestimated in any way; most only had a very short time with there spiritual master but were so moved that they remain more devoted in his absence through an ever changing organizational structure.
Through the Guru fall-downs, zonal acharia systems they have remained faithful to the words and instructions that they carry not on there sleeves but in there hearts; as the bible says the heart is the seat of motivation; what is close to our hearts shows in our motivation and our actions.
What came out is this that Srila Prabhupada did not see gender, nationality or by IQ but he could see the willingness to become a humble servant, to make Krishna the centre to take Krishna and his devotee’s into there heart; not demanding but simple requesting please help.
Each person says how they felt that knew them personally, understood there strengths and weaknesses and was able to bring the best out of them; always encouraging, guiding and directing. They felt such a personal affection for him that they simply wanted to serve in what ever way they could, even if it meant some discomfort this was never too much of a problem.
We can read and listen to the exchanges he had between his disciples and this weeks anniversary shows how much this impacted on those who listened that they have tried there best to continue to follow the directions; if it wasn’t for this humbleness to serve and become themselves a humble servant of the servant would any of us be here now? The simple answer is NO, even those who are now part of different Sampradaya use Srila Prabhupada’s books so too owe a debt of gratitude to those who helped edit and print the books and were so diligent in helping distribute them, and even to day in may center’s still take the lead in this.
This should be for us an inspiration an example of how a Guru, disciple relationship should be it is only by this exchange of loving devotion that motivates us from deep down; from within the heart then and only then can we make our life successful and have a lifetime of service to Guru, Krishna in loving service to the devotees local community and doing one of the only humanitarian works that will save the soul from continual suffering; could a life have anymore meaning than this?
