The other day I took the time to look at the different sweets I ate as a child, what did they contain?
To my surprise all contained either beef or pork gelatine even those that I expected not to contained them.
I decided as I had some time that I would look at the products marked as vegetarian, ok so no what you could describe as direct meat were their but surprisingly a vast majority actually contained egg products.
Only the few specialist products marked vegan contained no egg, milk or meat products but to be truthful I could make them at half the price.
Which brings me to an interesting notation on the conversations I have had with individuals regarding what is vegetarian, a vast majority of individuals felt that egg would be alright to eat, whilst a few also included fish or fish by products as they felt it was not directly meat (defining meat as red or white).
It occurred to me that a common thing is to look for the vegetarian labelling (the simple “V”), this is a big mistake we should take time to read the label more closely.
But I also realised that during my early years nearly everything I ate had some sort of meat product involved a rather sobering and chilling thought especially with the knowledge I now have.
